Some Historical Highlights of Georgia Baptist History
1733 First Baptists arrive in Georgia with General Oglethorpe.

1772 Kiokee, the oldest Baptist church in Georgia, is constituted.
1784 The Georgia Baptist Association, the state’s first, is formed.
1788 Andrew Marshall, an African-American, is ordained as pastor of the First Colored Church in Savannah.
1813 Luther Rice arrives in Georgia to promote foreign missions.
1822 The Georgia Baptist Convention is organized on June 29.
1827 Thomas Walsh becomes the first recorded recipient of an educational scholarship from the Georgia Baptist Convention.
1830 The Executive Committee of the Baptist Convention is chartered.
1833 The Christian Index moves to Georgia. 
1840 The Convention accepts ownership of The Christian Index.
1845 The Southern Baptist Convention is organized in Augusta.
1865 The first African-American Baptist associations in Georgia were established.
1871 Lottie Moon becomes a Georgia Baptist while teaching in Cartersville.
1877 The State Mission board is constituted.
1884 The Baptist Woman’s Missionary Union of Georgia is established.
1919 The $75 Million Campaign is launched.
1925 Georgia Baptists adopt the Cooperative Program.
